Thoughts: I am a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. which is the oldest and coldest intercollegiate fraternity for African American men. Yesterday June 8th we had our Phirst Pham day which is a celebration of our relationship with the oldest intercollegiate African American sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. We celebrate Phirst Pham on June 8th to call attention to both organizations founding years. Alpha Phi Alpha was founded December 4th, 1906 at Cornell University and Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded January 15th, 1908 at Howard University. Thus we have 06-08! Oh-Yeah!!!
You may have seen on your campus or in media Black Greek lettered organization doing what may look like a line dance however this style of movement is referred to as Strolling. Strolling is a way that Black greeks pay homage to the tradition of the dancing by Africans as well as Black American Slaves. Also strolling is a way for Black Greek Letter Organizations to show strength and unity. There are serval classic songs that are synonymous with strolling from Juvenile’s Back That Azz Up to Too $hort’s Blow The Whistle. But my personal favorite and the song that gets me out of my seat is Who U Wit. 🤙🏾
