Song of the Day (07-25-2022)

Song: New Day (2011)

Artist(s): Kanye West and Jay-Z

Album: Watch The Throne (Deluxe)

Thoughts: Happy Monday! It’s a new day and a new week! We have the opportunity to make this week whatever we want it to be. I like this song by HOV and Ye because it’s a very mature song in the sense they are talking about the insecurities they have as Black men in this country but also the anxieties of raising Black children in this country. It is a very powerful song. I am really moved by HOV when he raps:

“Took me twenty six years to find my path
My only job is cuttin’ the time in half
So at thirteen we’ll have our first drink together
Black bar mitzvahs, mazel tov, mogul talk
Look a man dead in his eyes
So he know you talk truth when you speak it, give your word, keep it”

These bars speak to the fragility of Black male life. We hear it all the time young brothers will say ” I just wanna make it past 21″. Now HOV has made it past this milestone so he has the opportunity to impart wisdom on to his children. What a beautiful thing to express.

Now, this is Coffee With Chuck right? Over the weekend we got a new coffee machine that can make Lattes. And today I made my first latte ever. WOW! I am a fan of Lattes. I would say I am feeling good. If you peep the sample in the back of this song RZA who produced this song sampled Nina Simone’s 1965 Feeling Good. I hope you all have a great day! Peace!
