Thoughts: Last night I was teaching and I was having so much fun. I absolutely love teaching. Sitting in this realization I reflect on the moment I knew for sure that I wanted to be an educator. It was the fall of my sophomore year of college I was taking a 300-level education class titled Multicultural Education. The class was taught by my advisor and mentor who is a Black woman. At the midpoint of the semester, my professor split the class up into multiple groups and we had to come up with an elementary-level math lesson using this song. The purpose of this activity was to introduce us to hip-hop-based pedagogy. This activity had a profound on me and it showed the importance of having a pedagogy that meets your student’s needs. I knew instantly after this activity I wanted to be an educator. And ever since then I have been a hip-hop intellectual. We need more Black educators! Love and Peace!
