Israel’s War on Gaza: We Should Care

This morning I tweeted that “America is a cowardice and spineless country with no moral compass”. Let me explain myself. Now, this is something I have been consistent on. I have said and said that America has no moral compass. America is not missing a moral compass when comes just to the Israeli war on Gaza. We lack a moral compass in the way we police folks, underserve communities, incarcerate Black and Brown folks at disproportional rates, and fail Black and Brown folks with racist medical practices. These are just few examples of a much larger list. But today I think it is important to talk about America not having a moral compass as it pertains to the Israeli war on Gaza. Today is the 236th day of the all out attack on Gaza. Yesterday Israel expanded it’s invasion into Rafah which borders Egypt. Death has become a norm for Palestinians but American leaders virtually see nothing wrong as they will not call what is happening a genocide. Rather, these leaders are more concerned with the young people across this country who are protesting these most heinous series of events in Gaza. These protesters are calling out institutions of Higher education who do business with Israel. You think this call for disinvestment would be something politicians and institutions would get on board because one thing about politicians and institutions they like their money. And I think it is interesting that this stance is bi-partisan. Politicians are very hostile to these young folks as yesterday Donald Trump said he would deport pro-Palestine protesters. Now to the citizens of this country many are cowards just like the politicians as they do not see a problem, or believe that the war on Gaza is justified, or they simply do not care. Well, you should care. You might not oppose this war because you morally do not see anything wrong, which I unfortunately understand why because like I said this country has no moral compass. So if you do not care morally, then you should care fiscally. The money we pay our taxes with is being sent over to support Israel’s war. A war that we are not involved with. I take that back. Our tax dollars are actively supporting the genocide of Palestinian people. This not meant to sound like money should be your only reason for caring. But rather, your contributions make you (myself included) an active participant in the genocide of Palestinians. We must not continue to contribute to this genocide. We should join the young people at universities across the country. We should be calling on our politicians to boycott, divest, and sanction Israel. I think importantly we need to call this war what it is. This is a genocide. Free Palestine from the river to the sea.
