It’s been a while since I wrote on here. My life has been consumed by my dissertation and my energy has been absorbed by the project. I am happy to be writing on here again. With that said while I haven’t said a lot, I’ve seen a lot. I have been sitting back and watching the world unfold but I have been bitting my tongue for this moment.
What is happening in the Middle East is not only tragic but it is morally and ethically unacceptable. Israel’s ongoing treatment of Palestinians is not only not new but it has become a standard treatment that the world has accepted as a normal. For the first few weeks the world was loud but that volume has been silenced. Moreover, the United States has been complicit in the genocide of Palestinians. These milk toast liberals like Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden are spineless cowards who fail to use their platform. By not calling for a ceasefire they have only continued to support the Israeli ethnocentric ethnic cleansing project. It is time that these meek leaders do something because if they do not act Israel will carry out their project of genocide. From the River To The Sea Palestine Will Be Free.
Now to the Grammys. I am so happy that Killer Mike swept the Grammys. There is not an artist who was more deserving than him. He wrote and produced a beautiful album. The album was not only cathartic but it was also life-affirming. Songs like “Shed Tears”, “Run”, “Something for Junkies”, and “Motherless” capture the plight of Black life which is a life of social death. However, he also drew attention to despite social death Black folks can momentarily experience a social life that is expressed by community joy. At the Grammys when Killer Mike got arrested I could only think that at our proudest moments that’s when the devil comes to get us. But it is in these moments we must remain steadfast and faithful. We must express gratitude in these moments because we must realize God protects us through the strength he gives us to resist temptation, so that we may go forward towards our highest selves.
What in the world is happening in Black Comedy? From Monique to Katt Williams these folks are wildin. Black comedy needs a revival and a healing. We need to bring Def Jam back I think. We as a people need our comedians to be on point and have unity so that we can laugh ourselves out of the wake.
That’s all I have for today. I will have more to say in the future. P.E.A.C.E.
